Dream big

So in this post I’m going to be looking at dreams. Not in the Inception ‘dream within a dream’ sense, so you can put your spinning tops down. I’m thinking spiritual dreams, like what do we want to achieve for God?

I was reading something by Francis Chan the other week that really struck me. He was saying that maybe the reason we don’t see much of the Holy Spirit is that we don’t need Him to do the things we are doing. The Holy Spirit helps us do things that humanly aren’t possible, because with God all things are possible. But how often do we limit ourselves to what we know we can do in our own ability? We follow a God who promises to do immeasurably more than we could possibly imagine. “Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think” Ephesians 3:20.

Maybe we need to start dreaming bigger. Maybe we need to start asking God what He wants us to achieve, rather than asking him to help us with what we feel we could achieve. Maybe it is time to stop being limited by what is humanly big, and dream bigger dreams, because the God we follow is bigger than anything we could possibly dream.

When it came to the feeding of the five thousand the disciples were panicking because they did not know how they could feed the crowd. They didn’t dream big enough. Jesus takes five loaves and two fish and feeds the crowd. He isn’t limited by what is humanly possible, and as we have the mighty power of the Holy Spirit at work through us nor should we be.

I was reading about the birth of Samson the other day, and an angel came to visit his future parents to tell them it was going to happen. His dad Manoah asked the angel what his name was, and the angel’s reply blew me away.
“Then Manoah asked the angel of God, “What’s your name? When your words come true, we’d like to honor you.”
The angel of God said, “What’s this? You ask for my name? You wouldn’t understand—it’s sheer wonder.””Judges 13:17-18 (The Message)

We can’t even understand the names of the angels, that is how awesome and huge and mind blowing the God who loves us is. And yet we put limits on what we think is possible for him? All things are possible with God, so dream big, ask Him to work through you to achieve not just good things, but great things for the sake of the Kingdom. Things you couldn’t possibly hope to achieve on your own. Then people will see that God is at work in you, and He will get the glory. Amen?
