It is finished

Jesus said, “It is finished!” Then he bowed his head and released his spirit.” John 19:30
On the cross as Jesus breathed his last He cried out “It is finished.” On the cross “he was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed.” (Isaiah 53:5) As He passed from life to death, the grip of sin on us was lifted. Jesus’ mission was accomplished. The gates of heaven were opened wide for sinners like you and me to enter in, cleansed by the blood of the Lamb. The grip of sin is finished. Death does not get the victory. In the end, Love wins. The cross is proof. The cross is proof that God loves you so much that He didn’t even spare His Son in an effort to bring you back to Him. With Jesus’ death the power of sin to keep us separate from God is finished, as His blood pays in full our ransom.
When we were utterly helpless, Christ came at just the right time and died for us sinners…Jesus Christ brought forgiveness to many through God’s bountiful gift…all who receive God’s wonderful gift of righteousness will live in triumph over sin and death through this one man, Jesus ChristRomans 5:6,15,17
Through the Cross we have been made righteous in God’s sight. The stains of our sins are washed away by Jesus’ blood, shed for us out of love. Sin has lost its grip on us. When we put our faith in Jesus, we like Him can say to sin “It is finished.” Through the cross we have forgiveness for our sins, and can leave them in the past, walking in triumph away from sin into newness of life, becoming transformed by the Holy Spirit into the likeness of Christ (see 2 Corinthians 3:18).
The grip of sin is finished. The power of lust over your life is finished. The power of addiction is finished. The power of anger is finished. The power of pride is finished. The power of greed is finished. It doesn’t have to control you anymore. That thing you keep secret, that thing you keep stumbling over, that thing you keep swearing you won’t return to but somehow find yourself unable to escape, IT IS FINISHED! The cross breaks it’s power over your life. God has a gift of forgiveness for you. You can receive his gift of righteousness. Jesus came to die for us “while we were still sinners” (Romans 5:8). Jesus knew all about your sin when he went to the cross, yet he still went. Your sin is not so great as to rule you out from His love. So don’t resist it. Surrender to Jesus. Come to the cross and lay down your sin and say “It is finished.” Leave your sin behind. Walk in the new life that is possible through Jesus’ sacrifice. He received the punishment we deserved that we may receive the glory that He alone deserves. “So you should consider yourselves dead to sin and able to live for the glory of God through Jesus ChristRomans 6:11
