Mighty God (Dec 7)

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder; and his name shall be called Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of PeaceIsaiah 9:6
Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand” Isaiah 41:10
We continue our look at the names of God that Isaiah lists in this traditional advent reading. As will remember the first coming of Jesus and eagerly await His return we remember this Christmas season that we worship a might God. We can take such confidence from that! We worship the mighty God, the maker of heaven and earth.
Our God will never fail us for He is the mighty God. His promises will be fulfilled for He is the mighty God. His love will not waver for He is the mighty God. Our foes will not defeat us for He is the mighty God. The forces of darkness are powerless against Him for He is the mighty God. Our problems are not too much for Him for He is the mighty God. Our struggles will not pull us away from Him for He is the mighty God. Death does not have the final word for he is the mighty God! The mighty God who triumphed over sin on the cross. The mighty God who rose to life roaring out “Oh death where is your victory?”. The mighty God who loved us even when there was nothing loveable about us. The mighty God who never stops loving us even when we turn our back on Him. The mighty God who is with us in our struggles and troubles. The mighty God who helps us, who makes a way for us, who upholds us and strengthens us.
There is none like Him. There is not one on heaven or earth can compare to the mighty God we worship. None who love with as rich a love. None as powerful. None as caring. None as compassionate. None as gracious. None as slow to anger. None as quick to forgive all who call on His name in faith. No religious system promises anything like our mighty God, who is mighty enough to save us from our sins without it being dependant on us doing anything. We have this firm, unshakeable hope when our faith is in the Mighty God who came that first Christmas and whose return we long for. This advent fall on your knees in adoration before the Mighty God who loves us. He loves us! You and me. Crazy, missed up, flawed, broken, sinful people like me and you. The mighty God loves us! What courage and confidence we can take from that, that He loves us today and every day. Rejoice!
