Devotions to help you live out your faith

Life

More Than Just Words

Being a Christian is more than just the words. Being a Christian is more than just saying, “I believe” or “I have faith”. Being a Christian is knowing and believing, with all your mind, all your heart, and all your soul, that Jesus is our Lord and Savior. Being a Christian is trusting and having faith in the fact that Jesus took our punishment from us, and opened the gate to God.

Your relationship with God is so personal, that there is nothing and nobody that can do anything to change it or make it better. While other people can tell you things or show you things that inspire you to build up a stronger relationship with Jesus, nobody can get between you and Jesus and do something to your relationship. Your parent’s faith is not your faith. Your friend’s faith is not your faith. Your faith must come from your very own heart.
While it may look good to say to others, “I’m a Christian, I have faith in Jesus.” But that is only giving the glory to yourself, and not to God. The words by themselves are useless, without you acting upon them, and living up to them.
It’s like saying, “I’m going to try my best and do well at school this year,” but not doing your assignments until the last minute. Just the words by themselves won’t change your mark, you need to live up to the words.
It’s exactly the same with your relationship with God. It’s no use saying, “I have complete faith in Jesus,” and then try to do things your own way at the first difficulty or problem that arises in your path. Having faith in Jesus is putting your trust in Him, no matter what.
The words by themselves are no use. Being a Christian is more than just the words you speak. No amount of great words can strengthen your relationship with Jesus. It is the prayer and the actions that will do that. It is the love you show for God and for others that will do that. It is what you do, not what you say, that counts. You can’t just talk the talk, you gotta walk the walk.
