People like you and me

For people to enter the Kingdom of God they need to hear that message of freedom through Jesus’ death on the cross. Which is where the responsibility lies with us. You see God delights in using people like you and me in the advancement of His kingdom. He doesn’t need us, but He wants to involve us, which is just amazing. And our task is not just in inviting people to come to a service or meeting; but in convincing them that Christianity is worth exploring.
It is pretty incredible that God would choose to use people like you and me. Because when things are left up to the people we have a history of making some questionable decisions. Just recently it was announced that the winner in an online poll to name a new scientific research boat was Boaty McBoatface. Mountain Dew had to close a poll for a name for a new flavour when the leading candidate emerged as “Diabetes”. Justin Bieber had to cancel plans to take his tour to the location his fans voted for after North Korea became by far and away the most voted for country. And then there are the results of our most recent elections. And yet still God choses to use people like us!
Fortunately we can take comfort from the fact that nothing we do for God is ever wasted. As Paul reminds us in 1 Corinthians 15:58Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labour is not in vain.” When we labour to share the Gospel it will not be in vain. Indeed, labouring to share the Gospel is ultimately the only pursuit that eternally matters. Strive to live your life in such a way that people will be attracted to find out more about the joy you have in Christ.  Don’t just content yourself with sending out invites to an outreach night on facebook – go deeper than that with your efforts to reach out to your friends and show them the difference Jesus is making in your life. And always remember it is not our job to save people – God does that through the Holy Spirit’s conviction – our job is simply to point them to Him and make them curious to learn about Jesus so that He can do the rest.
