The day that true love died

“For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16
“Carrying the cross by himself, Jesus went to the place called Skull Hill (in Hebrew, Golgotha). There they crucified him” John 19:17-18
The cross. The ultimate symbol of how much God loved you. A sign that he so desperately wanted you to be reconciled with him that he would give his one and only Son to take the punishment that we deserve. To carry our weakness. To be “wounded and crushed for our sins” (Isaiah 53:5).
Jesus didn’t have to die on the Cross. He didn’t have to take our place. He wasn’t forced into it. He didn’t stand to gain personally from it. Yet his love for us was such that he went through the most humiliatingly painful death for us. Not because we are worth it. Not because we deserve it. Simply out of love, incredible love.
Because of the cross we can enter into a relationship with the Lord of heaven and earth. Because of the one complete and all sufficient sacrifice Jesus made for us, our past doesn’t matter. Because of the blood Jesus shed for us we can stand spotless before God, the debt of our sins paid in full by Jesus’ death.
Today is Good Friday. The day that almost 2000 years ago true loved died for you and me. So the question is, have you accepted that gift? Have you put your trust in Jesus to be the bridge between you and God? Nothing else will bridge the gap. Nothing you do. Nothing the world has to offer. Only what Jesus did on the cross. Amazing grace.
