The Remission Flow – The Light that Flows Review

The Remission Flow are a relatively new band from Monaghan, Ireland. Their debut album, The Light that Floods is out now, and is worth checking out. It is packed full of passionate praise songs with a real upbeat, lively vibe. This is a ‘light-rock/indie’ style album, with similarities to Two Door Cinema Club, Snow Patrol and Hillsong United.
Lyrically the songs are fairly simple, yet profound – there is a lot of repetition of the words within songs, with one line being sung over and over in quite a few songs, but when those lines are reminders of powerful Biblical truths such as how our life only finds hope in God that isn’t a bad thing. It enables you to sing along quickly and engage with the worship experience, and get great messages stuck in your head.
The stand out track for me is the opener Walls which is a passionate cry from the heart for us to follow where Jesus leads us and a longing for Him to break down the walls in our lives and in the lives of those around us as we shout His name. Coming up to Easter, My Saviour Lives is another great song that reminds us what Jesus went through for us and how we can never be the same as a result.
Many of the songs have a Hillsong-esque anthemic feel to them, Your Word in particular has a great drum beat to it that wouldn’t be out of place on a Hillsong United release. The album is made up of songs with deep lyrics that are full of solid truth and stay away from simply being love songs to Jesus – these are songs that guys can sing along with. Lyrically this is definitely an out and out praise album that musically packs a bit more punch than the standard contemporary worship album, with tunes you can rock out to while worshiping God.
