We will remember them

They shall grow not old,
As we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them,
Nor the years condemn,
At the going down of the sun
And in the morning
We will remember them.
— Laurence Binyon (1869-1943)

11th Of November – Rememberance Day. The day we commemerate and remember the sacrafice many by thousands of soldiers during the two world wars so that we can have such freedom, comfort and relative peace today. And the need for us to live worthily of that sacrafice. To make the most of that freedom that was bought at so high a price. To avoid making the mistakes that led to world war in the first place.
And as you think about it, there are parallels with an even greater sacrafice. A sacrafice that we should remember not just at a specific Remembrance Day, but every day. And that is the sacrafice Jesus made for us on the cross, winning victory over sin. And just like we need to live worthily of the sacrafice made for us by the soldiers (and civilians) during the war there is a great need for us to live worthily of the sacrafice Jesus made for us on the cross. We can never earn it, but we can live worthily.
So as you remember the sacrafices made for you during the wars (and which continue to be made in the war on terror in Afghanistan) also remember the sacrafice made for you by Jesus on the cross, and of the need to live worthily of both sacrafices, so that they are not in vain. We will remember them. And strive to live in light of them.
