Our mission
“Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.””(Matthew 28 v16-20 NIV)
Our mission is simple – to go and make disciples of all nations. To spread a passion for the name of Jesus. To do whatever it takes to ensure His name is praised in every language of the earth. But that will only happen if we accept the mission and act on it. We can’t just wait in our church or in SU/CU for the non-Christians to come looking for us. We have to go looking for them, just like the shepherd in the parable of the lost sheep (Luke 15v1-7) went out looking for his lost sheep.
“Some want to live within the sound of church or chapel bell; I want to run a rescue shop within a yard of hell.” – CT Studd.
Unbelievers aren’t usually going to be found under the church steeple – to find them you’ll have to go out into the outside world. Into ‘risky’ areas, right in front of the gates of hell. You’ll have to step out of your comfort zone. But it’ll be worth it.
We have to live our lives in such a way as to make people want to become Christians. If all we do is moan and groan it’s not really going to sell the Christian faith to many people. But if we live in a positive manner people will start to get curious. If we live a life of love towards others people will start to see that maybe Christianity provides a better way than the world does. People will start to want to be more like us. And they might just start to get interested in why we are living the way we are.
“shine
make them wonder whatcha got
make them wish that they were not
on the outside looking bored
shine
let it shine before all men
let them see good works and then
let them glorify the lord” Shine by Newsboys
Live your life in such a way as to make non-believers wish that they weren’t on the outside. So them good works. So often in the media the only mention of Christianity is in negative articles. Let’s work to reverse that trend. Don’t remain quite. Be active and loud. Not loud in such a way as to get glory for yourself, but loud in such a way that good gets the glory. And be visible. Don’t be an invisible Christian. Make sure people know you are a Christian, and that that is why you act the way you do. We are called to be a ‘city on a hill’ – we can not blend in, we need to stand out, and shine out brightly for Christ
Delirious have a song Paint the town red, and the chorus has the line :
“We’re gonna paint this big old town red
With the blood of Jesus! “
Let’s totally cover our surroundings with the blood of Jesus in such a way that the world has to sit up and take notice! Let’s paint the town red by completely basing everything we do in the love of Jesus. Be it school work, chilling with friends, part-time job, uni lectures, church, or anything else, our mission is to do it in such a way as to make disciples of all nations. Our mission is to shine out, and to shower those around us in love, and allow God to plant seeds in their lives.
