Blacked-Out Goggles
Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. – Hebrews 12:2 (NIV).
The other day I listened to an Olympic swimmer who is forty-one and has qualified to return to the Olympics.
When asked why she thought she beat out people decades younger than her, she, of course, cited her work-out routine and diet..
I heard her say something interesting. Early on, one of her coaches blacked out the sides of her goggles, so she couldn’t see the other swimmers. She could only focus on her own performance.
As Believers, we need to blackout the sides of our spiritual goggles as well. Then we will not pay attention to Sally next door’s walk with God or our Aunt Maddy’s two towns over.
We must focus on Jesus and Him alone because He is the only One who died for our sins and finished the work of redemption, healing, salvation, deliverance and total life prosperity on the cross.
Keep your eyes focused on Him and the finished work of the cross, and you will win the race every time.
