Set Free
“You have died with Christ, and he has set you free from the spiritual powers of this world.” Colossians 2:20
Jesus’ death has set us free, our chains are gone, we are no longer bound, we are free to run, free to dance, free to live life with God. We are free from the grip of sin, free from the world’s snares, totally free to live for Him. The power of Jesus’ blood, shed on the cross for you and me, breaks the bonds of sin. Satan has lost his grip on us.
“So if the Son sets you free, you are truly free.” John 8:36
We don’t need to let our past hold us back, for he has set us free, free indeed. We are set free from previous failures, from what the world thinks, from the Devil’s temptations because we have been set free. So walk away from those chains that Jesus’ blood has broken and be free! We do not need to remain trapped by them anymore. On the cross Jesus broke the chains of sin that bind us. We have been freed for he paid the price for us. His blood is the key that sets us free. We have been bought at a high, high price, not because we were worthy of it, but because God loved us regardless of our past. “Through him everyone who believes is set free from every sin, a justification you were not able to obtain under the law of Moses.” Acts 13:39 (TNIV)
Through Jesus’ death we have been set free, our freedom bought at a high price. A price God thought worth paying. His love for you is so great that Jesus was willing to humble himself to die “a criminal’s death on a cross” (Philippians 2:8). And with a great price, comes a great responsibility. Because Jesus didn’t set us free so we could carry on the same way as before. He set us free so we could enter into new life. So we could be transformed. Corinthians 2:15 puts it like this: “He died for everyone so that those who receive his new life will no longer live for themselves. Instead, they will live for Christ, who died and was raised for them.”
We have been set free to live for Christ. Free to run, free to sing, free to dance, free to shout, free to do it all for His glory. We have been set free to live for Christ, we have been set free for great things, not a life of being average and boring. God chose us from before the world began; He has plans for our good, to give us a future and a hope. We have been set free to prosper for His sake. We have been set free to shine bright, shining with the love of Christ into a world that desperately needs Him.
We tell the world that Jesus changed our lives. But do our actions back it up? Are we any different from the non-believers? If we are wearing the same clothes, listening to the same music, watching the same TV shows, going to the same clubs, reading the same books and drinking the same drinks as those who haven’t been set free by Jesus then has He really set us free? We are to be in the world, but not off it. We have received new life to live for Christ, not to just carry on in the same old ways. We have been set free to set free to shine with the light of Christ, not to blend in with the rest of the world in darkness. Enjoy the freedom that Jesus gives us. Don’t remain in chains any more, for His blood can set you free. Free to live the life He planned for you from before creation. Rely on Jesus today to set you free, and use that freedom for His glory.
