Start Right
By now we are a few days into the new year, and your resolutions have probably fallen by the wayside. The junk food has been eaten, the snooze button has been hit and the run forgotten, the planned caffeine detox abandoned and the determination to work harder forgotten. So often people start January with all these great intentions, but then it all just fades away. But the start of the year is a time of opportunity.
Maybe you have been struggling recently. Maybe you feel as though you have just been going through the motions of faith. Maybe things have been lacking in passion for you. Maybe you have been feeling lukewarm of late. Maybe you haven’t been diligent in reading the Word or praying. Maybe it has been a while since you last went to church.
Here we are at the beginning of the year. The next 12 months of your life stand before you as blank pages. The fact that the calendar turned from 2012 to 2013 won’t bring about change in your walk with God. But choosing to commit to starting the year right just might.
Today can be the day for change. Today is a day of opportunity. Today is a day when you can resolve to start turning things around. This is the start of the year. A time when people are open to making resolutions for change. So use this opportunity. Resolve to change. Resolve to start the year right. To grow in your walk with God. To make this a time when you rediscover your passion. How do you do that? You start small. You start right.
At the start of this year, if you are weary, if you are lukewarm, if you want to grow in faith, if you want more of Jesus in your life, if you want to live fully for God then start small. But start right.
Start with a focus on God.
Start with a commitment to prayer.
Start with a heartbeat of “All glory be to Christ our King”.
Start with a daily reading of His Word.
Start with a soundtrack of worship as you go about life.

Simple steps. No complex new ideas. But if you start with those simple steps God will do incredible things. He promises to do immeasurably more than we could ask or imagine through His power at work in us (Ephesians 3:20). That is an offer worth taking Him up on.
Start with the small steps. Let God revive you through His Word. Engage with Him in prayer. Respond in worship. Resolve to start the year right. Resolve to start it by seeking God. Draw close to Him, and He promises to draw close to you (James 4:8). Start small. Start right. And get ready for God to do way more than you could ask or imagine.
