Everlasting Father (Dec 9)
“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6
“For I am sure that neither life death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord” Romans 8:38-39
At Christmas we remember the love of our everlasting Father. The Father who loved us so much that He sent His Son Jesus to be born as a baby to be our saviour, to break the curse of sin and free us from our chains. The Father who loved us even when we were dead in our sin. The Father who loved us from before the world was formed. The Father who was and is and always will be. The everlasting, unchanging Father who loves us. The Father who doesn’t abandon us or leave us alone when we try to run from Him. We remember the love of the everlasting God who pursued us. Who moved into our neighbourhood to win us back. Who became one of us and died in our place. We take hope for as our everlasting, ever-loving Father “did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all thing?” Romans 8:31. our everlasting Father has given us the greatest of all gifts – Jesus born to die in our place. That’s what we celebrate at Christmas, and it gives us courage for when that incredibly gift has been given by our Father we know there is nothing He will not graciously give us when we need it.
God our Father is everlasting. His love is never failing. There is nothing that can separate us from the everlasting love of God our Father. No matter what circumstances you face this Christmas stand firm on the rock solid promise that no sickness can separate you from our everlasting Father. No work situation can cut you off from Him. No family struggle will ever be enough to tear you from His arms. At Christmas we celebrate the fact that we have an everlasting Father who loves us regardless of the mess we make of our mess, and through Jesus’ death on the cross offers the promise of countless second changes when we turn to Him. He is our good, good Father, perfect in all of His ways and who loves us with a love so undeniable. Jesus’ birth is the proof of the Everlasting Father’s love for us, and the Father’s love is the reason for our hope, at Christmas and all through the year.
