Hulk Spirit Break Out

You may know the superhero The Incredible Hulk. He was one of the stars of the epic Avengers movie earlier this year, delivering the quality line “Punny god” after beating up Norse god villain Loki (which went down well with Christians who known the only non-punny God…). The basic story of the Hulk is he is a nerdy physicist Dr Bruce Banner who gets exposed to gamma radiation that unleashes this inner, powerful beast whenever he gets angry or is in danger.
And as I was singing the song “Spirit Break Out” earlier it got me thinking that maybe we as Christians can be a bit like Bruce Banner at times. The Holy Spirit is within us, and we know He is powerful – John tells us that “the Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world1 John 4:4. But so often He is hidden within. We go around like Bruce Banner. Ordinary. Unassuming. Quiet. Living uneventful lives. Blending into the crowd. Not standing out. Not doing bold things for the sake of the gospel. And I think the Holy Spirit wants to break out in our lives.Maybe we need to undergo a Hulk like transformation. When Bruce Banner turns into the Hulk he is no longer in control of himself. We need to surrender control to God, and acknowledge that His ways are better, that His plans are greater, that His power is stronger. That we are better off letting Him work through us rather than doing it our own way. We need to let the Holy Spirit burst forth in our lives, bringing transformation from the inside out. Don’t fight it. Don’t resist it. “Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives.”Galatians 5:25. Every part of our lives! Surrender everything to Him. Let what is within break out. Let the Holy Spirit break down the walls you have put up in your life. Let the Holy Spirit smash down the walls of fear in your life. Let Him smash down the walls of pride. The walls of insecurity. The walls of selfishness. The walls of comfort zones. The walls of safety. Let the walls come down so that the world can see the Holy Spirit at work in your life.
Let the Spirit break out in your life. Break out in love. Break out in joy. Break out in peace. Break out in patience. Break out in kindness. Break out in goodness. Break out in faithfulness. Break out in gentleness. Break out in self-control.
That is the kind of fruit the Holy Spirit wants to produce in our life. He wants to do great things through us. He wants us to impact others and show Christ’s love to them. He wants to help us advance the Kingdom, on earth as it is in heaven. He wants us to be bold for the sake of the Gospel. He wants us to leave our comfort zones and follow wherever God calls us. He wants us to be generous, as we have been benefactors of God’s generous grace and mercy.
“No one lights a lamp and then covers it with a bowl or hides it under a bed. A lamp is placed on a stand, where its light can be seen by all who enter the house.” Luke 8:16. Don’t let the Holy Spirit, who Jesus sends as a Counsellor to all who believe (John 16:7), be hidden in your life. Don’t live as Bruce Banner when you can be the Hulk. Let the Holy Spirit break out in your life and transform you into the person God created you to be.

  • I like this Read, I don’t see nothing wrong with it, except that Hulk is an over exaggerations of power because Hulk has potential energy to do just what he want to if he have the will to do so, but that is his limits. Power true power have no limits and gods that hulk fights have limits, How can one call their self a god if they have limits?, Now thinking about a Creator that have no limits that’s power and not only power but also wisdom. The true power comes from having the wisdom to acknowledge the power that wisdom comes from in since power is just power it can create or destroy but that take knowledge, will, reason, and purpose, when it comes down to destroying well that takes also knowledge reason and purpose. Power relies in the Faith of Wisdom. At the end of the day while both is happen at the same time, One gain WISDOM to bear witness of such an phenomenon.
