Pursuing Justice Review

Pursuing Justice is a new book all about the theme of justice from a Christian perspective. It is an in depth look at what the Bible has to say about justice, why as Christians we need to care about the plight of those less fortunate than ourselves, how it plays out and how justice relates to the Gospel message of Jesus.
Pursuing Justice is a very in-depth look at justice, running to over 300 pages, and as well as featuring the thoughts of Ken Wytsma (founder of The Justice Conference) he heavily quotes various theologians, modern poets and draws from both his personal experiences and those of others living out the biblical principle of justice to make this a very thorough and complete look at what it means to act justly as Christians. Ken comes up with several great analogies throughout the book that help his points sink in, and really emphasis his core message that justice is not something for some of us, but is an essential part of the Christian life for all of us. He argues that you can not separate justice from the Christian life but it has to be something each of us takes seriously.
Pursuing Justice will help you understand the need to take justice seriously, and may well cause you to question some of the priorities in your life. One thing it doesn’t do is offer simple formulas but rather leaves it to you to work out how the need for each of us as Christians to pursue justice with our whole heart will play out in your life. I appreciated this as it recognises there is no ‘one-size-fits-all’ formula, and while it is something each of us need to take seriously, it is something that will look different for each of us.
One complaint I would have is that at 300 pages this is a pretty long book for the theme of justice, but it is readable and at no point would the typical reader feel out of their depth in theology.
