Facebook4God
This is the first in a new recurring series of short articles focusing on taking everyday activities and showing how we can use them for God, how we can use them to share our faith. After all, in Colossians 3:17 Paul says “And whatever you do or say, let it be as a representative of the Lord Jesus, all the while giving thanks through him to God the Father.” We are going to be looking at ways in which you can take every day things and do them as representatives of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Facebook (or alternative Brand X Social networking site…) is a site that most of us use on a regular basis – in fact the chances are you are reading this through Facebook right now! But have you given thought to how you could use it for God? There are a number of simple things you can do to share your faith with your non-Christian friends and offer encouragement to fellow believers:
- Set your religion as Christian (or your specific denomination) on your info page so that anyone can easily see – a simple way to publically declare your faith.
- Use your Facebook status updates to share Bible verses, Christian quotes and spiritual thoughts rather than just trivial musings on what you had for tea or what you are watching on TV.
- Find some Christian groups on Facebook to become a member of – not only will this get you in touch with other Christians but it’ll show up on your profile page and let your friends see that you have joined them. (Why not share your favourite groups in the comments section below)
- Become a fan of your favourite Christian bands and authors– it’ll not only mean you can stay up to date with their latest news and releases, but will also recommend them to your friends, spreading the word about them. (And if you haven’t yet, make sure to become a friend of All4God to spread the word!)
- Use the messaging features (Chat, wall posts, mail messages, whichever you prefer) to send encouragement to those who need it – use Facebook not just to keep in touch with people, but to build people up, and inspire them on to greater things
Do you have any other ideas of ways in which you use Facebook for God’s glory, or ways in which we could be representatives of Jesus on Facebook (or equivalent sites)? If so then share them in the comments below so that others can use them too.
